I have started this blog as a place to post my paradox game AARs.
So what exactly is an AAR?
AAR stands for "After Action Report." With regards to paradox games this typically refers to posted play-throughs done under certain parameters, generally with some type of roleplay element that is recorded and manufactured into an interesting story. The AARs here will be posted in much the fashion of those found on Paradoxplaza. There are some excellent examples here and here. My goal is to complete a mega campaign much as these excellent AARs did following and guiding my nation through the better course of a millennium, with smaller side-off campaigns to keep things from getting stale.
So what's the plan?
The goal is to carry Brittany from a Celtic backwater outside Pepin's Empire into modern industrial glory. I plan to begin with a ruler designed character at the Charlemagne start of 769 all the way through Vicky 2 (this is assuming I can get all converters to cooperate). These so-called "mega-campaigns" can be challenging due to the snowballing effect size and experience tends to have with paradox games. To help avoid this, I plan on roleplaying and may add parameters as needed. In our alternate history a young Breton noble takes power to foster a new county against the powerful Frankish horde, centuries of oppression from the south must end.
Goals:
Push off the French masters of western Europe
Neuter centralized power in France, ensuring no baguette can form
recapture historic Gaul for Celtic cultural peoples
Out of the three games (Crusader Kings II, Europa Universalis IV, and Victoria 2) I have put the most time into crusader Kings, docking up around 780 hours. Victoria 2 and EU4 I have played considerably less, though I consider myself better at Vicky 2 than EU4. This may impact my play through, as I am not as familiar with the mechanics, but I figure this will only make for a more exciting experience as I will be less inclined to min/max
and off we go to the history books....
